Furniture that survives a school year

What goes into a Zumax school fit-out
- Anti-microbial HPL contact surface
- Desk tops, teacher tables and lab benches use anti-microbial high-pressure laminate from Marino, Greenlam or Royal Touch. The board complies with EN 438 and IS 2046, with rounded post-formed edges on primary-school ranges so there are no sharp corners at child height.
- Powder-coated steel sub-frame
- Student desks, locker bodies and bench legs are built on cold-rolled steel sub-frames, then finished with Paramount or AkzoNobel powder coat. The coating is 100-hour salt-spray tested so chipped corners don't bleed rust into a classroom by year three.
- Hardware — runners, hinges, locks
- Lockers, teacher pedestals and library cabinets use Hettich runners and hinges, with Salice or Grass on some lines. Locker and almirah-style cylinder locks come from Hafele or Ebco — proper lever lock and bolt sets, sourced as bought-out hardware.
- Library shelving + glass display
- Open shelving and reading carrels reference IS 1553 for stability and shelf-load. Glass-door display cabinets use Saint-Gobain or AIS tempered glass on the doors, set into BWP plywood carcasses from Greenply or Century with laminate finish.
- Lab worktops + benching
- Chemistry and physics benches reference IS 4837 for educational seating-and-table standards. Worktops are a chemical-resistant top with sealed edging — not the laminate-on-MDF that fails at the edge band by year three. Documentation goes to the school's MEP consultant on request.
- Auditorium foam + fabric
- Fixed auditorium chairs use 35 kg/m³ cold-cure moulded foam — actual density, not nominal. Outer fabric is IS 15768 fire-retardant. The fold-up writing tablet sits on a steel arm, powder-coated to the same 100-hour salt-spray spec as the chair frame.

Looking after your Zumax school furniture
Wipe desk tops, teacher tables and lab benches with a soft cloth and mild soap solution. Skip steel wool, scouring pads and any abrasive cleaner — the anti-microbial HPL doesn't need it, and scrubbing kills the post-formed edge first.
Run a drop of light hardware lubricant on Hettich runners, hinges and locker locks once a school year, ideally at the start of the summer break, to keep drawers and locker doors smooth.
Touch up chipped powder coat on desk legs and locker bodies with the matched touch-up pen on the maintenance kit, before moisture gets under the coating and lifts it further.
Vacuum auditorium fabric monthly and spot-clean with water-and-detergent dabbed on a white cloth. Avoid solvent cleaners — they degrade the IS 15768 fire-retardant treatment.
Log any wobble, loose top or seized lock with the estate office and raise an AMC call to the Business Coordinator Team — replacement parts ship from Greater Noida in 7 working days.
