The L shape modular kitchen is what most Indian flats actually need. Two perpendicular walls carry the sink, hob and fridge, the third side stays open to the living room, and the corner that usually goes to waste becomes a pull-out you will actually use. Zumax has been building kitchens since 2008. A surveyor comes to your flat, measures the walls, and the 2D/3D layout is drawn for your approval within 5 working days. Cabinets are cut to the millimetre at our 60,000 sq.ft Greater Noida workshop. Carcasses are BWP plywood from Greenply or Century, hinges are Hettich soft-close (Salice, Grass or Blum on some lines), and the worktop is quartz or granite sourced through Hafele's stone partner network. A Zumax surveyor visits with a laser distance meter, tablet and a material samples kit. We map both walls, the corner angle, window heights, gas point and waste line so the 3D layout matches the room to the millimetre.

What goes into a Zumax L shape kitchen
- BWP plywood carcass
- 18 mm boiling-waterproof plywood from Greenply or Century, edge-banded on all four sides. BWP grade is the right call for an Indian kitchen because of steam over the hob and the occasional splash under the sink.
- Hettich soft-close hinges and runners
- Hettich on every build, with Salice, Grass or Blum substituted on some lines depending on stock. Soft-close hinges and tandem drawer channels are full-extension, named on the BoQ before you sign.
- Quartz or granite worktop
- 20 mm engineered quartz or granite sourced through Hafele's partner stone yard. Slabs are seamed on site with a polished edge and a matching upstand. Quartz on long L runs, granite around the hob is the most-asked combination.
- Anti-microbial HPL on shutters
- Door laminates are drawn from Marino, Greenlam or Royal Touch, all EN 438 / IS 2046 compliant. Anti-microbial HPL is fitted on shutter surfaces where specified, useful where the kitchen also acts as a tiffin-prep zone.
- Saint-Gobain or AIS tempered glass
- Where you opt for glass shutters on wall cabinets or a back-splash, the glass is tempered Saint-Gobain or AIS. Tempered glass shatters into blunt pebbles rather than shards, which matters in a room full of utensils.
- Hafele or Ebco locks on tall units
- Pantry and tall-unit locks come from Hafele or Ebco. Both lines stock spare cylinders at our Greater Noida facility, which keeps the 7-working-day replacement promise honest.

Is an L shaped kitchen good for a small 2BHK flat?
Yes. It is the most space-efficient layout for kitchens between 60 and 120 sq ft, which covers most Indian 2BHK plans. The L uses both adjacent walls, keeps the third side clear, and holds the work triangle under 6 metres as IS 4963 recommends.
What is the minimum size needed for an L shape modular kitchen?
The shorter arm needs at least 1.5 metres (5 ft) and the longer arm 2.4 metres (8 ft) to fit hob, sink, fridge and a real prep zone. Below that, a single-wall layout is the more honest answer. Above 4 metres on the long arm, you may be better off with a U-shape or peninsula.
Which hinges and channels does Zumax use on the L shape range?

Can the corner be used as storage in an L shape kitchen?
Yes, that is the whole point of going with an L. We fit a Hettich magic corner (a pull-out tray that swings out of the corner cabinet) or a Le-Mans carousel as standard. No dead zone, no awkward reach into the back. The corner holds up to 35 kg of utensils and dry goods.
What worktop material is best for an Indian L shape kitchen — quartz or granite?
Both work, and most clients end up mixing them. Granite handles heat well and shrugs off stains, which matters when you are cooking with tadka and steam every day. Engineered quartz is non-porous, joins almost invisibly on long L runs, and resists turmeric staining better than granite. Most Zumax clients pick quartz for the long arm and granite around the hob, which gives you the easy-clean run for prep and a tougher heat-tolerant zone at the cooking station. Stone is sourced through Hafele's partner stone yard.

Looking after your Zumax L shape kitchen
Wipe shutters and the quartz worktop with a damp microfibre cloth and a mild dish-soap solution. Skip abrasive scouring pads and strong acids like CIF or harpic — they dull the laminate and etch the stone.
Lift heavy stockpots straight up off the hob area rather than dragging them across the worktop. Quartz handles weight well but resin can scorch under a 200°C cast-iron base left to sit.
Lubricate Hettich hinges with a single drop of light machine oil at the pivot every 12 months. Wipe the drawer runners with a dry cloth — no WD-40 inside the cabinet, the residue collects atta.
Clean the magic corner mechanism every quarter. A dry brush over the tracks keeps masala dust and dropped grains from jamming the swing.
