Double Gallery
A double gallery kitchen, also called a parallel or galley kitchen, runs two cabinet rows facing each other across a central walkway. For narrow Indian flats where the kitchen is 7 to 12 feet long and width is tight, this is the most storage-dense layout you can build. You get two counters, two drawer banks, double the prep surface and a clean split between the wet zone and the hot zone. Every parallel kitchen begins with a free site survey, a 2D/3D layout within 5 working days that you sign off before fabrication, and a spec sheet that lists the Hettich hardware, BWP plywood carcass and laminate finish. Inside Delhi NCR our own payroll crew handles the two- to three-day install with no third-party logistics. Outside NCR a Zumax-supervised partner crew takes over, with one project manager owning the job end to end.

What goes into a Zumax parallel kitchen
- BWP plywood carcass
- Cabinet bodies are built from BWP plywood sourced from Greenply or Century, edge-banded on all four sides. The boil-water-proof grade is what keeps the sink-side run dimensionally stable when a tap leaks or a hot pot lid is set down on a shutter.
- Hettich soft-close hardware
- Every hinge, runner and lift-up mechanism is Hettich as the floor spec, with Salice, Grass or Blum offered on selected lines. Drawers run on full-extension soft-close runners; tall overheads use Hettich lift mechanisms so they hold position at any angle.
- Marino, Greenlam or Royal Touch laminate
- Shutters and exposed carcass faces use EN 438 / IS 2046 laminate from Marino, Greenlam or Royal Touch. Anti-microbial variants are available on the prep-side run where raw food contact is constant.
- Quartz worktops via Hafele
- Engineered stone is sourced through Hafele's stone partner yard in 18 mm or 20 mm slab. Long parallel runs get a mitred edge profile so the joint at the corner reads as a single block rather than two slabs butted together.
- Saint-Gobain or AIS tempered glass
- Where the design calls for a glass splashback or a tall-unit shutter insert, the tempered glass is Saint-Gobain or AIS. Both meet the safety standards expected for behind-hob and behind-sink positions.
- Hafele or Ebco lever locks
- Where lockable drawer banks are specified, the lever lock and bolt set are sourced from Hafele or Ebco. Standard kitchen hinges and runners are not BIS-certified components, they are the Hettich line above.

What is a double gallery kitchen?
A double gallery kitchen is the Indian trade term for a parallel or galley layout: two cabinet rows running along opposite walls with a walkway between them. It packs the most storage per square foot of any layout, which is why it is the standard choice for 2 BHK and 3 BHK flats where the kitchen is long and narrow.
What is the minimum size for a parallel modular kitchen in India?
Minimum overall width is 8 feet, so you get two 600 mm cabinet runs plus an 1100 mm walkway. Length should be at least 7 feet for a workable wet-zone and hot-zone split. Below those numbers we recommend a single-wall layout instead, and we will say so on the site survey.
How are Zumax parallel modular kitchens quoted?

What is the difference between a parallel kitchen and a galley kitchen?
None. They describe the same layout. "Galley" is the older term borrowed from ship kitchens; "parallel" or "double gallery" is what Indian architects and modular brands use. The dimensions, work triangle and hardware spec are identical.
Is a parallel kitchen good for small flats?
Yes. It fits more storage than an L-shape into the same footprint because both walls work. The trade-off is you lose the dining or breakfast nook that a peninsula would give you.

What worktop materials are available?
Quartz (engineered stone) sourced via Hafele's stone partner network, granite, and laminate finishes from Marino, Greenlam or Royal Touch. Quartz is the default recommendation for parallel kitchens because the longer runs are more forgiving of seams. Material samples go out at the 3D design stage.
How long does Zumax take to install a parallel kitchen?
15 days from order confirmation, subject to site readiness on electrical and plumbing. The 2D/3D layout lands within 5 working days of the site survey, and the written quote comes back in 24 to 48 hours. Installation itself is two to three days on site.
Do you deliver and install in cities outside Delhi NCR?
Free delivery and on-site installation by our own crew is limited to Delhi NCR. Outside NCR we use Zumax-supervised partner crews, with third-party logistics billed as actuals and a Tier-2 add-on of 2 to 3 days on top of the standard 15-day build.
Where can two cooks work in a parallel kitchen without colliding?
Keep the central walkway at 1100 mm minimum. We put the wet zone (sink, prep, dishwasher) on one run and the hot zone (hob, oven, microwave) on the other, so each cook has a self-contained surface. Pull-out bins and tall pantry units go on the shorter end wall.
Looking after your Zumax parallel kitchen
Wipe shutters and carcass faces with a damp microfibre cloth and a mild dish-soap solution. Avoid abrasive scouring pads and acidic kitchen cleaners on the laminate face.
Clean the quartz worktop with a pH-neutral spray, not a citrus or vinegar mix. Mop up red-wine, turmeric and beetroot spills within the hour so the pigment does not sit on the polished surface.
Lubricate the Hettich runners and hinges with a light silicone spray once a year. Open and close each drawer five times after spraying so the lubricant works into the bearings.
Keep the under-cabinet LED strip free of cooking residue with a dry cloth every fortnight. The 4000K neutral strip is on a separate switch, so turn it off before cleaning.
Run the chimney baffle filter through a hot-water and dish-soap soak every six weeks. A loaded filter is the single biggest reason oil migrates back onto the shutters above the hob.
